The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office has responded to a major motor vehicle crash involving two 18-wheelers on Interstate 49 near Rodessa Ida Road, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

The crash has closed both southbound lanes of I-49 at Rodessa Ida Road (LA Hwy 168). Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, as the interstate is expected to remain closed for an extended period while emergency crews work to clear the scene.

One driver was initially reported trapped inside their vehicle, prompting a response from Life Air. Ambulances have since transported two individuals for medical treatment—one to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport and the other to North Caddo Medical Center. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

Tow trucks are en route to remove the vehicles and clear the roadway. The crash spilled a significant amount of oil onto the roadway. Louisiana State Police Hazmat has been notified, and the spill is currently considered manageable by the responding wrecker services.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, along with state highway officials, has also been informed about the closure.

Deputies and other emergency personnel remain on scene. Drivers traveling through northern Caddo Parish should expect significant delays and exercise caution when approaching the area.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
