A traffic stop on Saturday night led to the arrest of a 20-year-old man after a Caddo Parish Sheriff's deputy discovered a handgun and a large quantity of suspected ecstasy pills in his vehicle, according to Sheriff Henry Whitehorn Sr.

On August 22, 2026, at around 10:45 p.m., Corporal J. Fourcade observed a blue Honda Accord traveling south on Roy Road. The car failed to stop at a stop sign before turning west onto Shreveport-Blanchard Highway, prompting Cpl. Fourcade to initiate a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as Brandon Shephard, 20, who had a 14-year-old juvenile passenger. While speaking with Shephard during the stop, Cpl. Fourcade noticed a handgun on the floorboard near his feet and detected the odor of suspected marijuana coming from the vehicle. Both occupants were ordered out of the car and secured while deputies waited for additional backup.

Upon searching the vehicle, deputies found a large bag containing suspected ecstasy pills inside the center console, weighing approximately 172.1 grams.

Following further investigation, Shephard was arrested for distribution of Schedule II controlled dangerous substances, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and a violation of firearm trigger-lock laws. He was transported to Caddo Correctional Center, where he was booked on the aforementioned charges.

The 14-year-old juvenile was released to his mother. The investigation is ongoing.
